The rundown

RDS commissioned us to both fine-tune the multi-screen experience of its website and redesign its home page.

Context

RDS wanted to take its website from a one-dimensional, one-screen site to a simple yet more dynamic experience that would suit sports fans’ evolving needs. This meant revisiting not only the site’s code but also the UX of its homepage.

Mandate

Collaborate with RDS’ teams to develop a framework that allows them to quickly and efficiently share their content across all screens, all with the use of their own Content Management System (CMS).

Challenge

RDS had very specific needs, so this was a highly customized job. U92 has been present throughout the process, from planning and development to architecture and coaching.

Goals

  • Shine a spotlight on content
  • Use the current CMS to provide a bespoke experience for each screen
  • Never lose sight of user habits and industry trends
  • Accompany and train RDS’ teams

Process

Following an in-depth review of the user experience and site code, we worked closely with RDS’ teams to adapt our work to the structure and workflows of their existing technology. We not only consulted on templates and style guides that would facilitate this process but also proposed tools and platforms that would help move things along.

RDS

U92 worked closely with RDS’ sales, marketing, content, development and web teams to redesign their homepage to showcase rich editorial content without ever losing sight of promotions and ads. Working with each RDS team enabled us to comprehensively define the project, analyze pain points and statistics, and address each team’s specific needs.

Our primary goal was to put content in the limelight. We fine-tuned the news feed, article layout and video feature to be both catchier and more accessible. We also improved their advertising integration, as the success of this project hinged on finding a balance between content and ads.
