To mark the launch of Assassin's Creed Origins, U92 and Alice & Smith brought Bleublancrouge's vision to life by developing an immersive platform featuring guided tours of the game’s expansive open world.

Context

In recent years, the gaming industry has come under fire for releasing video game trailers that, while stunning and cinematic, far exceed the quality of the actual games they’re promoting. In response to this, Bleublancrouge put a fresh spin on the launch of Assassin's Creed latest instalment: a platform for players to explore its open world through guided tours powered by the game's graphics engine.

Mandate

Create a desktop and mobile platform that allows users to book tours of ancient Egypt with custom itineraries built in the game’s graphics engine.

The challenge

The aim was to create a completely immersive experience that highlights the game’s appeal. To facilitate access to the platform, a web app was chosen over a native application to eliminate the need for downloads. This required several workarounds to deliver a complete experience within the constraints of the browser.

Goals

  • Offer Canadian players an immersive experience that accurately recreates the game’s open world
  • Promote content sharing to generate hype
  • Stimulate game presales

Bleublancrouge and its partners used the game’s graphics engine to produce videos of three different routes that encourage users to explore different parts of the game’s open world.

To create a feeling of exclusivity, we developed a reservation system where users can choose a time slot for live visits and register to receive personalized notifications.

The website’s integrated panoramic video system allows users to record short videos for Instagram Stories, including adding text and stickers to share across other social networks.

To achieve this, the video system records both the user’s movement and exact position in the browser, and generates a downloadable and shareable video. Plus, to promote organic outreach, the videos are shared natively on Facebook as opposed to an external link.
